I have a confession — I’m one of those people who hates to take their Christmas tree down. It’s so bright and cheerful, and the lights add a magical flair at night. But, alas, it’s January 2 and it’s time to take down the tree. But before I remove the ornaments and pack them away, I wanted to share two of my favorite ornaments with you. I have been working to collect fun and cute baking-related ornaments. These would also be good for others who love to bake.

Nothing makes me think of Christmas more than pretty plates that are white, include cardinals, or have great details and textures. I tend to like generic plates that I can use year-round, but will look festive with the decor that’s just right for the holidays.

This Pecan Cream Cake also known as  Italian Cream Cake was easy to make, yet took a little bit of time. The  recipe was a hit with my family and friends. It’s now requested for Thanksgiving, Christmas, and “just because”.

The recipe that I used is one of my favorite Southern recipes because when I am searching for ingredients, mixing, baking and serving it, I feel like I’m stepping in the shoes of my late grandmother, Alice Virginia. She made all of her cakes from scratch, including the one of my favorites that she made – Apple Jelly Cake.
